Draft video

With major problems thorughout the progression of my project I have been unable to upload my draft version of the music video.

A hard copy has been sent to the exam board as youtube could not format the HD resoultions on youtube.com

But feedback has been mentioned and I will go as much into detail about the sitaution to overcome into developing my final product.

Anigramatic Final Music video;

I had real problems as my profile would not work movie maker, the only way I could represent my anigramtic is in this method. Sorry for any inconviance.

As you can see i have finished my storyboard full of the shot the song in the middle is the one that i'm going to use in my final product. The timelines have been noted so you can refer to the shots. Each shot has the time line in as well.

From my draft and the feedback I was given i changes most of the scenery and the starting now as you can see. The hero of the music video will be changed but the villain will remain the same. the interview will be changed as well.

Hope the reader can read this clearly and enjoy.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

(This is me waiting for the mac to turn on as screen is blank) . Basically this helped with the programmes of imovie to make my music video. I didn't have many problems with the issues of editing and importing my music video.
I dvd which is also installed onto mac allowed me to burn my edited music video onto the mac and then give to the exam board etc. With the saved music video I imported it on a hard drive provided by the school. As I did not have enough memory space to put it on the school profile which I had, I used family relatives which had a bigger capacity of memory.

These are the types of computer that I've been working on to upgrade posts and information towards my project.
As you can see blogger is on showing that internet has access for me to edit posts and improve my project. This helps as I dont't have internet at home, I could saty behind in school and also use the internet such as Mozilla firefox or internet explorer allowed me to go on any computer but in the media department.

The usb Port at the bottom of the photo allowed me to transfer photos of my phone and upload pictures and annotate them on blogger, evidence of this is that the pictures on this question where uploaded from my phone.

Overall these are pictures showing what I used to improve my project of the technology which I could have access to.

Due to limited programmes on computer and not having the use of internet at home i struggled to keep up with use of technology. This presentation below show what kind of technology I used and how affective they were combined to the criteria of age and economic trends that mainly use the computer in today's society.

A2 exam question on skills of development on Prezi

This presentation above basically shows how powerful the term of new technology and the use of mediation has created changes ways of me deciding what to put on my media blog and in ways it can entertain the readers / audience.

It was mostly down to what technology that I can publicly have the rights to use and if blogger had connection so that the programme had the rights to be present / broadcast on the internet of my blog so people can see globally today and tomorrow.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

This presentation above shows how the audience have influenced to make a positive critical project.

The photos below shows evidence that I got these comments, I only took out the main points in the positive and negative on the presentation, but covered the explanatory of why in the presentation. . It's good to have a wider age range as I'm appealing to more audience profiles in different generation, and if there any links/ elements in trends in the older and younger generations as such as fashion and social activity have changed which I mediated in my music video to gain a different responses such as these comments.

This paper shows comments from the final version compared to the draft. As you can see in the presentation I took the most positive and negative feedback and negotiated on why I had to make decisions to back up the mistakes that some people state.

My handwriting is used as I was just asking about the positives and negatives and taking the notes that affect me the

most and affect towards my projects performance.

Overall From my feedback I think I've achieved what my targets are and that audience have positive and negative criticism.

If I could change these comment would probably just teaking up the mise en scene and apply a bit more time but due to deadlines and use of technology it reduced me and overall I think I came out with a positive outcome.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When I came to this decision I was happy as I mostly covered the elements of my mise en scene in the video and the expressions, as the background of the front and back cover was scene one.

I knew from my music I had to incorporate the atmosphere and emotional contents from my music video. Most of the characters expressions are blunt in the music video and talking to himself and he's the conscience, which makes the outgoing look negative it.

So the thought that the character stares into the camera on front, back, and CD layouts and that close ups will be good to see the full picture and audience can easily read the story of the digipack. The front and back cover where my main target as they mostly stand out and audience tend to see them before they open up inside.

Going further into the digipack I wanted to express the sides that the charcter shows his good and bad side connecting my colour scheme red was negative so the red light was place above his head covering my colour scheme. But the character still remains blunt and vain so that hopefully the audience wants to know more about him and the album.

The photo where black and white as it was the dominant colour of showing the negative outlook. This influence and developed a cold character and makes the mise en scene seem more enclosured and the close ups show more affective of the expressions the character are presented. I wanted my audience to just focus more on him in the middle of my digipack.

I did have problems though as I wanted to include my partner in the digipack, but the thing is that I may of drawn people off the whole genre of the story in the digipack and selling off the album in the best possible way, as my comment from my draft said that was to busy with two people in the shot and was harder to present an story and the placement of where they both went. Also I knew the poster had to have a link to my digipack with the mise en scene.

Overall I am happy that I covered link from my poster and digipack making them look nearly the same, and that the format of presenting the photos in black and white are successful and shows the love for the conscience and that I shown the inspiration from my music video. The font was off a website called cooltext.com and the font was 'alien glow' but under the graffiti aspect and randomized it.

The front and back font was Gothic sans this shows a bold outlook, the use of red from the research shows anger and hate which was good to express due to the expressions that the charcter jestured, the front font was large compared to the back but hat was for advertisment in the balance as the front is the main cover that audience read off frist so it had to b big to read and stand out from other albums.

Final Cd Cover

Finally have finshed my final design for the CD digipack.

How I gained this outcome is that looking back from reserch and feedback from my draft I knew I had to take out these main issues first;

  • Change the mise en scene, to over whelmbing as doesn't have generic comparsion with combine another.
  • That only one character should be in the shots, more easier for the audeince to read the story but harder to join it in with the expressment that combines into one narrative.
  • The font and sizes need to altered to prefection in my final digipack.
  • Keep colour theme simple and not too overcompliated, if can keep face clear so we can see how the character thinks.
These were the main elements that with critical feedback made me look into depth and pick up on these errors.

Looking at other people digipack the cast are simply placed in mid shot, close ups. This gave me more confidence just to express my cast in the same way.

With the text I kept the same but just organisned it so it was spaced and the eye is drawn when only needed to be as the picture expresses the whole story.
In the middle I only placed my other casts name on an insturment so the other is not taking all the credit from my music video, also it's good to show how many cast members there are.

With the colour theme as my music video connotates a cold and dark story black and white was used to make it old, the props in the back such as the match is used for mystery and fire / anger. The dead tree show non life and maybe the type of season or that the character has generic links in the album the angle the charcter is stood shows dominance as the upper body is pushed out and staring into the distance which make me think that he his thinking about something from the past and gives of this tense and eriay atmosphere.

I took the shots with my phone and developed them on photoshop when transferred to media computer in school. One of my family members took the shots for me but I directed how to take the shots. Overall I am impressedand relieved with the outcome that I got, it was easy to ctach the lens flare so when the light effect was on it radiatied off and brung out the texture more.

Also with the middleI copyed the photos and reverse so it show good and evil hense different coloured light red being anger blue being calm, so I could express a dilemma and solution a combined comparasion in my music video with the conscience / hero interacting with the villain.

I find now that my digipack is comfortable with competetion my reserch has paid off and reference resources towards my final design and that the elements have been developed in a unique way.

Final poster of advertisment

Poster
View more documents from Daniel Bailey.
This is my final poster for advertisement.

I didn't do much research because I knew what I wanted, just a quirky and place where unexpected attention is encountered. I chose alley way as it closed quartered and there's not much escapism.

In had the character looking down which shows negative body language and depressed emotion, it like there something which is troubling him, also with the hands in pocket describe the teenage outlook, and I expressed this by the costume he is wearing.

It also can show dominance as he is placed in the middle, the reason why the character is placed in the middle so that the annotation was easy to be balanced and not suffer as much from the size and style of font, the bigger the space the better for advertisement.

I involved 'KERRANG' as it a high advertisement brand licensed in the UK, it shows that I've research higher brands and that I can show a larger fan base, as I wanted to hit mainstream estimates and if it happened my poster would would be advertised in this way. NME falls under the indie rock, alternative rock, and upcoming grunge which my category would fall under upon.

If my poster tour would hit thing such as radio the quote will be advertised as he is one of the KERRANG announcers which shows that it's been listen and critically analysis in professional standards.

In the middle lighting effects is used to draw the the clarity out and also its another technique of alternative elements to catch the audience eye, I just played around with effects but I wanted the black and white to be clear and the mise en scene not much affected. As it grunge and trance lights and nightclubs are normally in mind and as it a album or tour release it could reference to cultural age group e.g. young adults 18-24.

Overall I pleased and if I was just to judge myself may have the character starring or move out the bin in the background as may distract some audience and could think of non relagance and is useless in the shot making it un professional, but the text is covering most of it so it'snot much of an issue.
And I like how the shot and colour scheme links in with my digipack.

Health and safety regulation due to mise en scne in music video;

When filming there always hazards and thing to take into care, this is why I done this table to show the hazards of my mise en scene and where I'm filming;

Then i thought about if I'm doing this risk assessment surely there would be a contract of agreement to cover anything that did happen. This below shows this;

Obviously this is not professional but it a basic layout if i was to make a contract of acception to the person taking the role of my characters.

final music video

Finally I have done my final piece of music video.

Overall with the timelines and also all the errors I've had I think I produced and proud of this result.

I only had one week to film this as the lead singer in my draft had to sadly leave me for rehearsals for his exams in a panto. So I had to take the lead, the reason why I took the lead singer is because I had an clear and visual outlook upon the music and I only had 3 days left before the deadline so it was easier and had more hopes to get it finished.

Also With my hair dyed red it I come across more negative as a character. I flim the first scene and showed it compared to the draft to audience, with this feedback I was influenced to take the role;

  • Your facial feature are more sharp and you the close up looks really good. (Jake Humber)
  • I like the background, I like the way you look angry, and you give off more emotion in your lyrics compared to the other. (
  • I do like the draft version but however I prefer you in the final music video as you got red hair and the hair style used, also the beard gives a kind of tatty look and the t shirt your wearing.

After that we started filming, I took all my changes made and applied them into the music video also now in the background the top is gone and any distractions were out of the way.

I found out when we moved stuff more spacement came into play, so in the kitchen scene this time I used more props such as the milk and bowl and also using the 180 rule into more risks, as I got a different shot of the table so the viewers could experience the whole room and atmosphere of the character, I wanted to express it as tense, cold, and cowardly. To show more expression that the villain acts in the way of the hero being a conscience.

The filming flowed alot more smoother in the concepts of spacement and lighting, my teacher and people who worked in my media claimed that it was too dark in the draft version and detracted them so I took this into consideration and then applied lamps speculating onto the actor. If you look at the stair scene compared to the draft version it's alot more clear and can actually see below the waist of the villain.

Also the different scene went really well and when was filming we could see the whole narrative come clear, as the mirror was in the kitchen last time it was not in the bedroom it's in his own environment which covers the realistic but also makes the narrative stronger to audience in ways of addressing in his bedroom. It could of been on the wall or in the bathroom which is still affective but his bedroom is his own privacy and makes the conscience invade his space and get to his head more clear.

Overall I am proud for what I have made with all the errors I've had with people dropping out at the deadline and also failures with the technology in the school, it's not the best in the world or school as technical terms were limited, as only had a camera and tripod and Emacs, but I have learnt from people helping and also my applied skills I can make a music video to my standard of abilities and get critical reviews from it. (look at diary of filming).

I think looking at this music video it will be aimed the ages of 13-21 as most people said it was clear to read, the age of the actors, the fashion, and the environment as they describe close quarter and blocks out the world.

So I've covered what I needed to do and have meeted my goals that I researched and set.

The improvements that I could of made will be written up in the evaluation.

looking at drafts towards digi packs.

I wanted to show people my previous designs that I tryed to present towards my digipack.

At first, before I even started the digi pack design I looked at this album cover:

I hand drew this picture on the left from just looking from examples and the layout of the album cover of pendulum.

I copied the eyes position and also the graffiti type of atmosphere as it was good and energetic at the time.

Like where pendulum album name and artist where placed I did the same layout as it was the most useful and presentable aspect, having it above didn't look good, and below the mouth was too big and spacement was limited.

I got the mouth idea from researching on google different kinds of demon liked mouths and facial expression and then kind of transferred them into one aspect which gave me this result.

The mouth of this picture skull was transformed in my own development as you can see in the bottom picture.

When the mouth was applied yet again I surrounded with graffiti to cover any blank bit ands also makes the narrative of the story addressed across more strong due to atmosphere and age range, teenage aspect.

The top I had some problems with, I did not no weather to cover it with graffiti and copy the same design as pendulums layout or add more fire or cartooned images. Then I thought about this character and what i drew in forms of emotional contents, so I applied looking through fashion linked, and came across a jokers hat. The reason why I drawn out a jokers hat above is that it fits the realistic factors of the character wearing a hat and the joker is described as a mysterious and sly character that can cause chaos, looking from batman joker i wanted to gather the same content of the narrative in that story which the joker plays.

Overall I was impressed with this work, but there was a major problem with this also.

Looking at other peoples work and stuff it was simple and well placed, the amount of graphics I have in this picture is over done. there was too much to edit because it destroyed the overall look upon it.

When editing on photo shop I found it really hard to fill in small gabs as there where out of place when i wanted to past filter the certain part. It filled the whole page either red or green as they where the colours in my colour scheme.

So this was a major problem with applying in affects to bring out small detail, as the picture is full of detail it was not possible to apply when gabs where out and also it looked to Gothic for my standard and did not match the genre of music.

I asked People and they came back with these as feedback;

  • I love the drawing and links with the first scene of your music video but I think it does go to the rock side and has a kind of similarity with Iron maidens album covers. (Brett Thompson AGE - 18)
  • I'm Love the middle sketch but the bottom needs a bit more graffiti in there, and also the top good effort though. ( Richard Bailey AGE - 21)
  • I love the drawing and gives a funky side to the genre so I think it does link to your catchy beat in the music video. (Dawn Johnson. AGE - 43)
  • There too much detail, you need to make graffiti but bigger examples, it looks to over crowed for my eyes. (Bryani Moulds AGE - 13)

From these I learnt points in a picture which need to be carefully examined, even in the 3 sector you still need to split them up into another 3 stages. Start, Main aspect / story, Small detail linking to story of picture.

Then I looked at other peoples blogs and everyone seemed to be doing photos of themselves or the people that were in their music videos. So I took the influence of them and went in that direction as it looks more simple and gives a straight narrative instead of over crowding a picture and people get different ideas.

Linking AS work - TODOROV

TODOROV:

Starts of as the bedroom being dark and a negative impulse throughout the character is used - not normal so the audience are jumped in to place and the actions have already begun.

The disruption is that the villain is interrupted in his everyday life, this conscience that he or she has is telling him to change and quick, the hero???

The recognition is going to be a scene where the character gets a negative element / beer and go to drink when the an mirror reflects him and the conscience talking, this will indicated that the villain is reacting with the conscience but really him or herself. Also after the mirror the character runs out of beer indicating bear to drunk impulse and falls on the bed to show the impact of what happens.

Attempting to restore after the falling off the bed, I will reverse the actions in shots and then the character will use another element to resemble the past and has to move on forward in life, the last two scenes will show this turn around and when writing to him or her self the actions are reversed again and combined into a positive outcome.

New equilibrium is that the chorus will be spoken again but this time past to present and shows the combination of change, this will be the last scene to close it all off.

Costumes used for my characters.

CHRIS (playing the villain);
The fashion that I used for my villain is today modern style of clothes. The reason why I've applied and used this for my villain in the story is that the marketing brand will link towards the music video. Also it cuts down the age range barrier that I wanted 15-21. The jacket was from the shop in Leicester named 'republic'
http://www.republic.co.uk/
Republic is mostly used for teenage or young adults. The jacket is black which links in with my three colour scheme and white and black jackets seems to be on the popularity list looking from surveys from the actual site / top sellers.
The jeans are also from the same shop which the villain uses, jeans are simple and easy to use as they can be any brand, as long at the tonement of colour is right (looking for a dark blue) then we can use it.
The top is a plain white t shirt to show that the class of the narrative e.g. if colourful and energetic indicates a party or going out clothes.

Here are another three examples to compare the overall standard and why we chose this idea.

(three photos of chris)
Me (playing as conscience);
With my style of clothing I have to very careful as I'm the main singer the words and lyrics will some how have to link to the narrative in the story.
The top that I chosen I think was good, I could of used a simple white top as well but I didn't want the characters to have too much of a genetic bond as it will not show the full use of being the conscience, it would aim as a physic or something.
So a top from all saints http://www.highcrossleicester.com/website/StoreDetails.aspx?retailUnitId=c27101d9-9eed-4f2d-8711-db69a944e65b which is highly expensive and most teenage generation shop there today for fashion industry i thought was perfect.
All saints tops and designment mostly relate to life and today society, so i brought this top with a skull wearing a crown. This indicates that you can be rich but theres something evil in return but my narrative links in such ways, the villain is targeted to being rich so that he can pay for things and benefit from life in different ways e.g. paying off his house rent and saving himself from depression.
So in the concepts he trying to get a job for money that will help him survive and not throwing it away. How you no it's from all saints is that the v neck is much more lower presenting the chest more.
The jeans that are worn in the final video are from river island another top selling shop for the teenage population, this time broguth ripped jeans, this shows the working class it comes across as informal and links to other fashion scene such as Gothic and indie. The jeans are light blue and white patches aswel so it stands out with the black top.
In my opinions the fashion is like the clothes have been ripped and torn, like the person is chained up and want to be set free which is perfect towards my narrative.

James (draft version of the conscience);
Obviously this is binary opposite of my fashion, at first I just went for the indication of the hero being upper class in fashion and dress which worked but didn't. It cut out the narrative in ways off not describing the characteristic treads the words and actions. E.g. his style of clothes could be a risk of higher than the interview but then it works clothes. So I will filmed James and then got feedback as stated from my draft video.
But the fleece I think was too over the top and also boots that he wears but then over the top could be unique to some judgements.

Overall I went for the popular fashion in society today, the survey that I taken around high cross explains the overall fashion which people shop for and the age range, so it cutted it down sharply and what people want is what people enjoy and to present that in concepts on the music video I followed element from the survey.
(photos will be produced soon)

Can albums digi packs help me towards my final design?? (side covers)

Now the side cover I found a nightmare to do in my draft, I'll be honest I didn't have a clue in terms of structure and use of the mise en scene.

Now looking from these three examples again I can now find a easy route and ideas to annotate upon;

EXAMPLE ONE:

I found this examples on google. Looking at the side views they link to the whole story, front, back and where the Cd's go, so my mise en scene will have to have a strong connection as it like the main body when you open it up. It shows the story of the narrative in the album.

What I can see here is that the top two blocks are the sides and middle of digi pack.

This have given me influence to compete with another art drawing, but this time I will need to plan out as their picture as it takes two sides, I needs to be simple drawn. What i can do with the use of black and white is that I don't need to add colour it's already there so I'm having strong thought upon using these colours for my final Cd. this is good for covering and giving a bold outlook upon their narrative, it shows the audience what this is and how they response to it.

I found the structure is easy to do and very basic which I will benefit, looking from just this example it gives me the clear mind map of what is required.

As i can see the whole album is black and white, from researching black and white are good colours to research (look at 3 colour scheme final design for more detail), OK trance is colourful but in some points of the lyrics and narrative of my music video i can turn this into a trance rock type of cause. As long I have a strong narrative in use of pictures I'm fine and the front covers examples covers that.

Example two: LIKIN PARK - A THOUSAND SUNS!

I researched into linkin Park as his emotion and music are very strong for in terms of relationship with my music video.

I love everything about this digi pack, as it a kind of trance effect with the lighting and also the use of background that helps the middle frame stand out to others.
They have kept to a single photo but the photo right in front has been developed upon in the use of ideas from the black and white example.

I especially really like the front example with the use of bight and glowing colours and how they are combine together, this would be a perfect combo for my sides, maybe if I have a photo of me looking down outside or a slogan, and then have this kind of effect will work for the middle body of my digi pack.

And also this is an easy structured example of layout in colours and spacial awareness.

Example three: PEARL JAM
Peral Jam does not have a link towards music but the lyrics are and there narrative structure in the this album has.
I like how it like black and white but consists of loads of close up of body parts which indicates sudden movement and drama for mise en scene.
I like how it's outside and describes the background in a different atmosphere and environment.
And also the sides with the symbolic codes of Christ and distressed body.
The top three are yet again good for the sides, it can show a movement of story according to day e.g. by morning it starts by night it has grown.

So what I have learnt from sides points that that it has to link with the front and back in the use of colours and mise en scene, e.g. symbol will have links.
Also the sides describe the story of the album and link from the tracks suggested may come into effect.

I will therefore have one photo with colour imagery in the background.

Can album covers help my digi pack? (back cover)

The back of the cover consists of the CD one and Cd two in the back in my draft I thought the font was suitable but yet again did not look professional the colour that blended with the background did not match it quality.
Also the key is to keep as little detail in so the background is clear and people can read the track without being destroyed by other things such as pictures.

I found another 3 examples which are good to develop upon;

EXAMPLE ONE

BLINK 182 - EMERA OF THE STATE

I am looking for a busy back but I also want the tracks to be clear this is a clever piece and use of the colour code.
They have a massive picture smack bang in the middle, but at the top they have there slogan which links to there mise en scene and album in one colour.

Then where the tracks are another layer of colour is used, red and white bond well as they are primary colours.

So what I found from this is that I can have a big picture without being distracted too much, the only problem is with the background is like the after story of the front cover, and will it link up to the albums meaning. A Strong mise en scene. So maybe I could have a negative input on the front cover, but an easy going back, as my music video has a dilemma turned into a solution.

The only problem is that it might be too cheesy for some audience but I will work on it.

EXAMPLE TWO:

FOO FIGHTERS - GREATEST HITS

Yes it is greatest hits and my band is making a debut albums but this CD cover mise en scene I find very useful and strong in terms of keeping it simple.

The picture on the right is the album cover and the picture on the left is the back.

What I see here is lots of individual and professional outlet towards ticking off all the list.

I love the slogan of the band FF, it blended in with a simple shape with use of a primary colour so it stands out in the crowd.
The background is a secondary colour which blends in the primary, also the grey makes the mise en scene strong. It reminds me of the war as that kind of surface is planes and metal, and as I'm a big fan of foo fighters I listened to them and they have many links to the wear and life.

I love the simple minded use of the title and album cover name, they suck to the same font and stuck towards the 3 side rules top middle bottom, title top, slogan middle, album name bottom, I have more interest in this layout.

And what I love about the bond is that there the same background but the back is more shiny with the use of brass brown, they suck to there mise en scene and kept it tidy and well to read the story of the album.

The little bullets point next to each track I like as well as it structures the placement of track and that you can place it anywhere on the back without a fuss as long as it in this type of layout.
The spines are on the side with the same title and album name and font.
And to add a little more eye catchers that the missiles that are red are used for the normal tracks and the ones crossed off are the bonus tracks, covers, or a new release, how you know this is that the last 3 tracks have the same symbol next to them.

And last but not least they have the rights and regards 'Sony music' with all the details; release dates, band recordings, place made and manufactured etc.

And the bar code is place on the bottom simple and out the way.

EXAMPLE THREE:

GREEN DAY - DOOKIE

I like the simple quality again. With this shows the part of the story like blink 182 but then the rights and tracks placement are kind of foo fighters examples. I like the way they have underlined their tracks with the same colour, it simplifies the ways of structure and that they are all the tracks.
I love how the producer and the band are in the middle of track they squeezed it in but the audience have no problem of placement and don't get confused.
I found the bar code was different being on the top, it does work but I prefer it on the bottom but the reason I think why it went on the top so it does not damage the picture.
In the middle of the picture it has a resemblement to a tv programme, semerme street, this might be targeted for cutting down the age range???
But again the problem is google images will be required which knocks down my grade so a simple own resourced picture is fine.
And the bottom has influenced me a colour code which i will mention in the other post of advertising the bottom rights.
So from this I gained
Easy visual scenery for placement of band.
That I can have a successful picture but has to link to the front and sides.
What colour scheme I'm going to use for my final choices.
Examples of rights and reserves to make the band / artist release look professional.
