Linking AS work - TODOROV

TODOROV:

Starts of as the bedroom being dark and a negative impulse throughout the character is used - not normal so the audience are jumped in to place and the actions have already begun.

The disruption is that the villain is interrupted in his everyday life, this conscience that he or she has is telling him to change and quick, the hero???

The recognition is going to be a scene where the character gets a negative element / beer and go to drink when the an mirror reflects him and the conscience talking, this will indicated that the villain is reacting with the conscience but really him or herself. Also after the mirror the character runs out of beer indicating bear to drunk impulse and falls on the bed to show the impact of what happens.

Attempting to restore after the falling off the bed, I will reverse the actions in shots and then the character will use another element to resemble the past and has to move on forward in life, the last two scenes will show this turn around and when writing to him or her self the actions are reversed again and combined into a positive outcome.

New equilibrium is that the chorus will be spoken again but this time past to present and shows the combination of change, this will be the last scene to close it all off.

Applying andrew goodwins work

For narrative and links to famous and successful producers our class have focused on Andrew Goodwin he illustrated these elements to make a clear and sustainable video from start to finish;
Is my music video illustrative?
My music video is illustrative to the elements that my main character is does not exist, how the image is illustrated to give of that vibe is that the villain completely blanks the him out this shows like he does not exist, also the spacement that the main characters is a distance away from and not in the same direction where the villain is walking to, this make the audience believe that the main character is not moving and just staring at him and singing to him.
Sometime I the main character will look and use negative body language to show the feeling towards this character so it's like he's telling him throughout his day process he should not be doing it and should change.
Due to the mise en scene is need to be internal and close quartered so the character get up into the villains face, tight shot will be influenced throughout to illustrate the bond with the characters.

Is your music video amplified?
Looking at my storyboard yes I do have a certain element, this song was very good due to the beat and sound adapted upon to give off the atmosphere and narrative. The Tenderoni part consist of the villain looking at himself and spelling out the word, before i did this I wanted to find the definition of the word which I provided the terms in my lyrics post. It means a love correspondent to past terms which is perfect for the structure of my song, it start from past to present so the mirror could consist of flashbacks or the conscience being in the mirror reflects the villains narrative and like he's from a different world.
The way I will do this is every letter is spelt out so every letter the person will change facial expression or go back to key points of the narrative to remind audience where the key sections are and how it links to the mirror.

Are there any elements of contradicting?
Yes they are many elements that imagery and scenery links with the beat and tempo of my music, the first scene is slow and tense and my main character starts of as he is singing. The room is dark and close quartered, this shows the atmosphere in full detail. It just has to be the main character presented and no distraction in the background due to expressing the mise en scene.
Also the 2nd scene is structured to go faster and more energetic, so I want my villain getting up and continuing his every day life but in a fast neglected way. So throughout the song the time the beat changes the shot or character will change. I targeted change of clothes every time the beat changes so it shows the beat and also the different t shirt could show a different day so I benefit from both outcomes into one.
As i said my song goes up to down up to down so these expressions that I just explained above will be though throughout my whole music video and the storyboard and my anagrammatic that I've made will explain and guide you through the procedure.

Is there any disjuncture in the video?
To be honest no there is not at all, my whole song sticks to the narrative throughout, this song is very impacted and strong lyric ed throughout. Every word that is spoken and every beat that's changes I want impacted shots and elements that always links to my music video. Yes it hard to manage but I no I can pull it off.

So from Andrew Goodwin it structures a continuing music video through the key aspects that are needed to make a healthy story and meaning. Sometimes you need to let go and let the music take you to places but in the imagination sticks to what other people dream off and links the lyric as they are the pieces to the puzzle.

Narrative performance - Steve Archer

In this post I'm going to link my work in the techniques and methods of Steve Archer.

(SA = Stave Archer A= Answer back)

SA:
Often that music videos will cut from a narrative to performance through-out the whole filming.
A:
My music video will consist of straight up narrative and hardly any performance, it will be like a story and there is dance scenes, the only performance is affects to make my narrative look even more realistic and easy to understand the address-ment of the body language of the characters.

SA:
Sometimes the artist especially the main singer in the video will be part of the narrative being a narrator and participant in the same way.
A:
I totally agree with my music video my main target is to address my main artist as the narrator and whatever action or words comes out will link towards the story. I have to take extreme consideration when close up lip syncing as the facial expression will have to link towards what they want to address about the villain and narrative at the same time.

Basically this shows my structure of my music video and what key factors I'm going to use to make it successful, it will consist contrasts of facial and body language expression to illustrate negative input throughout my narrative, but at the the end the negative energy is used to get to positive, a mistake that can be fixed.

Importance of narrative in my music video

PERFORMANCE:
The performance in this music video has to high emotions running through-out so my characters will have to have sharp faces and photo energetic meaning that the expressions that they use are affective. Every shot will be carefully so that the characters are more or less in the middle of the shot, this covers the most significant element in addressing the success of the scenery of mise en scene and how the character blends in with the use of there actions.

NARRATIVE:
This music video is a very cold and tense atmosphere, full of negative energy and emotions throughout the whole story. The background mostly needs to be at night or dull weather, also the fashion scenery needs to be black or white or cream, plain easy colours that draw sense towards the mood of the narrative, also it blends in with the background for outdoors, to colourfully it cuts out the background as it brighter. my conscience is the most dominant so taller and more rough in the face and is good at addressing controlled mental anger towards my villain. the villain needs to cold shows hardly any expression, this shows his emotion clear throughout.
Actions are mental not psychical frustration and sorrow is used to describe the type of emotion used. And every scene is tense and leave the audience thinking what going to happen next and shows the graphical content of the music video.

CONCEPTUAL:
My scene are broken up into short story of the day and life of the villain and shows this is what he gets every day and noting positive happens until he listens and comes down to reality / conscience provides help. And the TENDERONI shows the link between the villain and hero and the hero turns the villain around.

Who is this artist ???

In this post I'm describing my main character in the story;

Looking form my lyrics research and structure my character is like a narrator for my song, the hero character tells the story of the villain and the mise en scene describes the scenery of the narrative and vibes of links to the villains personal life (shots and photos of sets).

My main charatcer is the hero so fashion scenery will have to presented in a powerful way, this could be done by the colour of the clothes e.g. red could express anger towards the villain, the villain could wear blue to connontate his mood is cold and thoughtless towards people and life, also this links with mise en scene, black and white walls would be best for my character as it describes the emotion of the house and background so it's easy for the audience to watch and not over crowed, as that would mediate people dancing so e.g. nightclub.

I am using calm colours for my main artist, as this connotates his emotion towards the villain and does not take no for an answer, basically he's verbally abusing him but not powerful or the message will not comes across, in other words is downgrading the villain. The villain will wear busy and informal clothes and trousers to shows his charatlistic and his interests in the world, basically not caring as I mentioned in my research of clothes. The video above shows a perfect response to colour coordination in terms of the rich and poor life and the way Lilly Allen is dressed she wants to be in rich life but in reality it hardly ever happens due to something. And also it can put you on a high but in reality you still in the same place.

My charatcer is objective as I mentioned in eminem video I want to to cut down straight to the chase, it's personal and needs to be changed as soon as possible before it gets worse.

this descirbes my main character and shows the narrative shows it true colours and the audience can find it easy to relate to them.

My chosen song / lyrics and meaning of it

With my chosen song I had to take the lyrics and what the artist has rephrased it to;

Been running with the rude boys
For much too much too long
You think you are one of them - these 3 lines connects in ways of he the person has been in a past group, but I want to rephrase it almost the same but like been hanging out with negative people which has made the villain who he is.
Every time that we kiss
It seems you are holding back
Don't be so quick to pull away - This revoles to a past love, but instead of kiss i want to relvole it like everytime you look for a way out you don't have the guts to.
Away, away, away, away - this could connontate that my villain is pulling away form the positive in the narrative.

I know you're thinking murder
Driving in your father's car
I will not let you disappear - In meaning the person has reached breaking point and using items that relate to his family and personal life, as my main charcter / artist is an hero it can link to his farther buying his car but he wants to end his life or carry on for his existence but his conscience is saying I'm not letting you do that!
Not your fault

Not your problem
Not one to apologize
If you want 'tough', I'll give you 'tough'! - This is perfect for basically the villain saying to his conscience it's not my fault not my problem its my past / childhood but in reality he / she has gone wrong and the conscience bites back and says you made yourself that way in thinking in the negative.

She said she was
More than this
And she would rot the brain in the head - This is love related again, but 'she' could be the mother. In graphical content she / the mum could of passed away due to beer related sources like my villain could be following, this brings out the meaning in a clear image.
She said she was
More than this
And you would rot the brain in the head - Basically in my term his mum said I can change but she did not, i could have a shot of him a the gravestone for the clear image.

T-E-N-D-E-R-O-N-I
T-E-N-D-E-R-O-N-I
T-E-N-D-E-R-O-N-I...

Tenderoni means slang terminology which refers to a younger male or female love interest or someone too young to talk to or become involved with. It is composed of "tender", which is a synonym for young and "roni" which usually serves as an affectionate diminutive towards a male or female.
But I want this part of his conscience talking to him, like it a special word which connect him to him and turning things around.

So overall in my lyrics I can now structure and use my ideas in shots to shot in my storyboard and in own development towards my feelings to this song.

Structure of the narrative

Looking at my picked song I had to take close measures into the lyrics and the tempo of the song. I found the chorus was the most easiest to analysis on as it was TENDERONI spelt in letters, first impressions I had of this song was lots of lighting effects and people dancing but then listening to way the artist sings it is a very dry and mellow voice which gave me intentions towards something else.

After listening to his voice and the lyrics I drove towards a mysterious background, the lyrics are quite graphic towards who is singing about which I found good as it will have a more powerful meaning, the problem was how to do it.

If to picture it without anything it sounds like the artist singing is not in the story as his voice tends to drift of after each sentence, but singing towards someone in the video, this is when I got the intention, my artist was going to someones talking conscience to a negative narrative (other character).

So from this I looked at negative actions and activity responses toward to words being spoke, how was I going to address them in the terms of mise en scene and the character.

The artist has to be almost dead to the world and he / she does not exist, but in response he is the hero of the narrative, I want my artist to try and save this villain / other characters from going down a spiral world and change.

I structured this in paragraphs which I have posted, each paragraph will represent the villains purpose in life describing his full aspect of his / her personal life.
The beat stay consent and repetitive so I need and on-going series so like the villains life is busy but lonely.

My mise en scene has to link with the atmosphere as my sounds are very tense and mysterious the villain will be closed quarters to the hero and in a confined environment of no escape, so I came up with the idea of repetitive shots but shots with the main aspect of his negativity.

So in other words a busy life style but the mise en scene describes his loneliness and negative background, and the hero will have to be mentally aggressive to the villain, looking from one video it helped me how my heroes body language can effect the villain;

This video is a perfect example of how powerful and graphic a conscience can be, it has to cut straight down to the chase of the narrative and what the villain gain and ends up in which this video addresses.

Also the body language used is powerful the way the arms are pointed at the villain and the situations he doing are negative to life.

I'm focusing on Eminem role as he the negative conscience, he comes across very clear, cocky and powerful so he get them into the villain head to turn the narrative of the music video positively.

Also slight pauses in the sentences are used to describe the villain actions in the past, the story correlation I'm using is past to present so I need flashbacks and repeated phrases which I mentioned.

Finally my ideas connotates towards the meaning of the song and Mediates across a powerful message to viewers in the way of, don't be this characters villain there is help and will power that you can do to proceed, listen to yourself before anything which is the message i want to fulfill.

Narrative theory - linking AS work 5 codes

In this post I'm looking through my AS narrative work and linking it towards my music video so I covered everything that the examiner want and expects.

5 CODES:

  1. The enigma code: Basically a teenage student that hasn't achieved much in life and continues the negative same day. After each day it's get worse and worse with alcohol intake and not giving a fuss about the concepts in life.
  2. The action code: A non physical way but emotional elements will be considered throughout the narrative and shows the impact of what can happen is the villain continues in the same way.
  3. The semantic code: The main characters is used as the conscience looking from eminem and Dr Dre's video on my blog the villain will completely blank out and walk past and not look face to face to the main character indicating that he or she is not in the same room.
  4. The symbolic code: My character is dress in teenage clothes to indicate the age range, also the t shirt is black and ripped jeans are to inform a scatty lower class, but as my song is mainstream they are today's fashioned clothes that are popular e.g. the top is from all saints. Also I have red hair it links with my 3 colour code and red is the use of anger and can address the negativity more clear. The villain wears today fashion to symbolise today fashion and links to mainstream e.g. red light roll deeps, the fashion that the artist and people in the background wear .
  5. The cultural code: The house is used a typical element of middle or lower class standards, the beer is used to show lower class e.g. if was 'wine' or 'Jack Daniels' it expensive alcohol. The scene of the interview shows the upper working class in life and my character shows this by the costume he's wearing.
